What's a good free program for composing realistic sounding symphonic arrangements?

Planning on creating a short 30-40 second teaser video for a book I'm self-publishing and I'd like to write the song myself. I've worked with MIDI files a little in the past, but they sounded so fake, I couldn't take it. Is there anything good electronically short of hiring a band to record a piece for me?
